Looks an awful lot (ok exactly like) the odd red poppy Chris Weitz was sporting that clashed so much with his red pants in London
See more London pics btw at BreakingDawnFR
So clue a sister in-- have I missed something in the Twilight world while I've come down with Swine flu, or is there something more to this red poppy thing?
update: My British loving friends Jen and Joanna have updated me that Red Poppies are a typical British Remembrance Day Item-- still unsure why J was wearing one a few days early. And not while in England. Odd coincidence?
Remembrance Day. It's a tradition in the UK.
ReplyDeleteTotally good to know-- still wondering why J is wearing one though
ReplyDeleteI still say Weitz has an apple and J just had a fantastic hat on with a poppy on it.
ReplyDeleteThey are both wearing poppies. Remembrance Day (Veteran's Day in the US) is also observed with red poppies in Canada. The poppies are worn for several days leading up to Remembrance Day. For more information see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remembrance_Day
ReplyDeleteRemembrance Day is celebrated in every commonwealth country.
ReplyDeleteIt is celebrated on the 11th day of the 11th month every year. And a minutes silence is given at 11am.
I live in Australia and we have a special assembly every year. The poppy is a symbol as it is flower from the southern part of france where allied soldiers were fighting in ww1.
So I think it's settled
ReplyDeleteA. Weitz and J are both cooler than and smarter than me (that was a given)
B. Both are cool enough to sport the red poppy in remembrance
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
ReplyDeleteBetween the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
-John McCrae, May 1915
