MTV and Weitz give us 5 brand new secrets about New Moon!

5 more things you didn't know about New Moon. And one important confession from Weitz about screwing up and more from MTV!

Going for the Gold: In "Twilight," RPattz and the rest of his vegetarian vampire cohorts have gold-colored eyes as a result of abstaining from consuming human blood. For "New Moon," the vamps' eyes were clearly more golden. Why'd Weitz have his actors switch to brighter contact lenses?
"It's a more noticeable gold," Weitz said. "I thought that in the first film they hadn't popped quite enough and I wanted to have that sense of otherworldliness carry through more."
The Silent Vampire: Actress Rachelle Lefevre was notoriously replaced in her role as the vampire Victoria following "New Moon," with Bryce Dallas Howard taking over the part for "Eclipse." In "New Moon," Lefevre is seen but does not speak. Is there a connection between her lack of lines and what happened with the casting decision?
"It wasn't so much that," Weitz said. "There was a dialogue scene with her, and eventually that will show up whenever they release deleted scenes. It was one of those scenes that, when you look back at it, it's kind of a surplus to the whole storytelling requirement of the movie. So there was no ill intent there. I wrote Rachelle and explained why that scene didn't end up in the film, and in terms of filmmaking I can't regret it, although I do regret it very much if it hurt Rachelle's feelings."
Why So Torn Up, Edward?:At one point in the film, Pattinson's Edward Cullen appears in a ripped T-shirt, but we never learn why. So ... what the heck happened?
"What it's supposed to be is that he's essentially been wearing the same clothes for several months, and that eventually they've just worn out because, as you I'm sure know, his body is like stone. So he must've rubbed up against something and it ripped," Weitz said.
Our Lord?:In its Italian-set portions, "New Moon" features a significant amount of religious iconography, and Edward certainly suffers a great deal. Is he supposed to be a Christ figure?
"I think that he is in a sense he's doomed to suffer eternally," Weitz said. "He actually thinks of himself as a damned figure, but he's wrong about that. So in some senses, yeah, he is a martyr figure."
Black Eyes: In Stephenie Meyer's book, Edward's eyes go black in Italy. Why don't his eyes turn in the film?
"It's because I screwed up!" Weitz admitted.
Really? He just forgot?
"Well, yeah, I kinda did," he said. "Well, there are two reasons. One is that I messed up. The other reason is that I actually thought that onscreen it would be quite bizarre to see his eyes go completely black, and that it would be more satisfying and less jarring to have that moment of reunion be a reunion with revivified Edward. But probably, the long and the short of it, there are many details that I did not drop the ball on, and there are some that I did."

Olympic Australian Ice Dancer a Twilight fan?

This is a total stretch, but the Australian Ice Dancer Cheltzie Lee is dancing tonight to Muse. Well technically, it's the Michael Buble version of "Feeling Good". And yes technically it's a song from a musical, and was written in 1965. And Muse is not the first band to cover it. But to me, it's a Muse song, and they do it the best! So yes it's a real stretch that this song means anything Twilight related, but since Muse and Twilight are so connected to me, hearing this song just makes me assume that Cheltzie Lee is a fan as well.

And Thankfully my husband loves Twilight and Muse with me, because as we were watching tonight, he yells at me to come listen to her song choice, because he already caught that it was both VSQ and Muse

This is the 2009 version of her short program. She is dancing tonight on the Olympics to the same song, and I believe using the same program


Do you hear it too? Is it the same song? I know you can like Muse and not like Twilight, but Miss Cheltzie Lee of Australia IS 16 years old, so I can only assume! Have to say, it was a great program. This young lady only found out a few days ago that she was EVEN GOING to the Olympics, finding out less than 2 weeks ago.

On a side note, she scored a 52.16 score tonight for the short program, a personal best for her, so congrats girl!

Her coach Kylie Fennell said a Michael Buble instrumental, Feeling Good, would accompany Lee's short routine, in which she needs a top-24 finish out of 30 girls to continue.

New Moon happening during..a New moon.

The Examiner reports that the premiere of New Moon will be coinciding with an actual "New Moon" Phase of the lunar cycle

On November 16th, the stars of The Twilight Saga: New Moon will line up in Los Angeles for the official premiere of the film.

The heavens, it seems, will also be lining up on that date as well. One Twitterer made an interesting connection between the date of New Moon's offiical premiere and the lunar calendar.

November 16th will also be the date of a legitimate new moon according to the lunar phase calendar.

Clever? Methinks so.

Moving right along, it seems that The Twilight Saga: Eclipse could be subject to a similar coincidence. The Twitterer's research proves correct in that on June 26th (four days before the release of Eclipse), a partial lunar eclipse will occur (with the next eclipse, a total eclipse, not due until December 21, 2010). If, like with New Moon's premiere, Eclipse's premiere takes place four days before the film's release, Eclipse will premiere during an eclipse, and New Moon will have premiered during a new moon.

Mitch Hansen band debuted on MTV

I guess I'm a little slow (and also didnt realize MTV even plays music anymore), but apparently the Mitch Hansen band had a video finally FINALLY debut on MTV and I couldn't be more excited for them!




MTV even did an article about them vying for a spot on the New Moon soundtrack.

FORKS, Washington — He's arguably the most talented and popular of a collection of musicians who compose songs about Stephenie Meyer's vivid "Twilight" universe. Yet, if you've only seen the "Twilight" movie, you may not be aware of Mitch Hansen. He's hoping all that will soon change.

"It's called 'By You,' " the affable frontman of the Mitch Hansen Band told MTV News of his latest song and video, which he's premiering with us and hoping to get onto the upcoming "New Moon" soundtrack. "It's essentially from Bella's perspective, and it's kind of a very edgy rock-type song. It's about 'New Moon' through her eyes, all that pain she felt. Then at the end it resolves — in a more happy place, I should say. It's a very emotional song."

Although "Twilight"-themed bands like the Bella Cullen Project, the Twilight Music Girls and the Mitch Hansen Band have become enormously popular with the fanbase since the saga's pop-culture explosion — and improved dramatically as musicians while playing songs to ever-increasing crowds — the folks behind the "Twilight" movies have continued to largely ignore them. As impressive as arena-rockers like Paramore, Linkin Park and Thom Yorke may be, a vocal segment of the fanbase is hoping Summit will finally give a big break to a Twi-band and incorporate a song with lyrics about the tale of Edward and Bella into "New Moon."
