Almost Edward

So last year Catherine Hardwicke announced who her 4 contenders for the role of Edward were at the time of final casting. All 4 of these men ended up reading opposite Kristen (infamously) at Catherine's home, on her bed of all places. Jackson Rathbone, Ben Barnes (of Prince Caspian fame), Shiloh Fernandez and Robert Pattinson all were in the running, but Catherine revealed in a recent interview that Shiloh Fernandez was her second pick. Robert and Kristen just had so much natural chemistry that Rob eventually won the role, but it seems Shiloh was actually her front runner for Edward and was almost solidified for the part. Amazing what one 30 minute reading can change in your life.

In discussing her latest movie, a new take on Red Riding Hood, she discussed Shiloh whom she did obviously eventually cast in one of her movies. Just not her BIGGEST.

RK:  Who are the men competing for Red Riding Hood’s affections?
CH: One of them is Peter, played by Shiloh Fernandez. She feels he is her soul mate, but he’s had more of a troubled past. They love each other but that’s not the way her mother wants Amanda’s life to go. She wants her daughter to have a better life and arranges a marriage with Henry, who’s played by Max Irons, the son of Jeremy Irons. He’s a very striking-looking kid, as is Shiloh, who’s very soulful. Shiloh was my runner-up for Edward in “Twilight” but he and Kristen [Stewart] didn’t have the instant chemistry lock that is now well-known.

If you can't honestly see him as Edward, you've lost your mind!  Yes in an Alternate Universe I know, but still.. he's totally on my list for mental versions of Edward.
