Eclipse- What will be the Total Box Office take?

If you are sitting around after about 6 hours of sleep like me, you might be wondering exactly how Eclipse did at the box office. Are we going to break records again this year? We've already broken one record by having the most screens showing the movie at one time in the United States (over 4000 btw). So how are we going to do in box office numbers?

I know I"m not the only Twihard that is nervous about going up against Potter in November. If we we don't pull in the numbers first, we don't get to go back and make it up once November comes and Potter rakes in cash. We have to be first now. We have to make numbers so big that it's impossible to beat them if we want to beat Potter income this year

We already have an early breakdown as we charge into the noon hour and start getting our official counts. Larry411, ever the Twilight Lovers' best friend, gives us this synopsis to put it into perspective

The Twilight Saga was the biggest opening of all time at 4416 venues. So it’s no surprise that early reports say theaters were mobbed not just in America but overseas as well.

There are a few things to watch for (click the links for daily numbers and extensive analysis). The Twilight Saga: New Moon opened on November 20, 2009 with $26.27 million from 3514 midnight screenings at 4024 locations.

The film took in $72.7M its first day, on its way to a $142.8M weekend, making it the #3 all-time and #1 non-summer opening weekend of all time. After the second weekend, its domestic total was $230.95M and worldwide was $473.95M. The film passed the $1/2 billion mark worldwide in its third weekend. After four weekends, New Moon sat at $267.32M domestic. And the film ended its fifth weekend with a total $274.6M domestic and $634.7M worldwide on its way to a current theatrical total of $296.6M domestic and $709.7M worldwide.”

Should Eclipse exceed New Moon in the long run if not its opening, then it would buck the trend of closely-timed serialized sequels, joining the ranks of the exceptionally-performing Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings franchises. When a second movie explodes with anticipation after the first movie's success, a certain amount of disappointment is inevitable and it becomes incredibly difficult for the third movie to maintain the momentum, especially when it hasn't had the time to stock more pent-up demand. That's how The Matrix and Pirates of the Caribbean series played out.

Summit Entertainment hasn't rested on its laurels, which is evident from the number of theaters they secured as well as a marketing campaign that has upped the action ante, suggesting that what was set up in the first two movies is finally coming to a head. Summit said that they are expecting Eclipse to gross $150 million in its first six days, including $60 million for the Friday-to-Sunday period. Females both young and old are predictably the driving force, and Summit reported that male interest is about the same as it was for New Moon.

With Box Office Mojo readers, Eclipse has not fared as well as New Moon: 26 percent of respondents voted to see Eclipse in its opening versus 32 percent for New Moon at the same point (though results may be skewed due to Eclipse's Wednesday start). Anticipation may have been lowered by the reception to New Moon: Box Office Mojo readers graded New Moon a "C+," compared to the first Twilight's "B," while the IMDb User Rating for New Moon was 4.6 (out of 10), compared to 5.7 for Twilight.

This commercial actually turned out really well- I wasn't sure how it was going to go when they announced the hunt for Twi-fans but to be honest, it made me laugh and it's done pretty well. Makes me want to go to Burger King. And just look around since I don't eat fast food, I'm a vegetarian and I don't drink soda. I"ll STILL buy this stuff. Silly Twilight fans

Eminem asks Joel McHale to go get him "New Moon"

I think Joel Mchale is one of the funniest mo-fo's on the planet, or at least on ENetwork, And I'll openly admit my long time love with Eminem, aka Marshall Bruce Mathers III. So when Joel does a skit with Em, where he mistakes Joel for a hotel bellhop, I wans't prepared for Eminem to request Joel go find him "The New Twilight. Yeah, the 2nd one.  New Moon"

Hey he does have a 15 year old daughter, so does it make anyone else giggle to imagine Eminem having to watch Twilight on repeat with his daughter, while she moons over Edward. Hilarious

Dallas is hosting Eclipse Cast Members PLUS a New Moon watching party

DUUUUDE!! Seriously! Somehow I missed that this was happening and I'm a massive Twi fan!

If you live in Dallas, you need to know that starting tomorrow morning, at 8am, Nordstroms is offering the "opportunity" to meet Jodelle Ferland and Tyson Houseman. You don't meet them tomorrow on June 19th, but you get the "opportunity" to buy $75 worth of merchandise and get a VIP pass to meet Jodelle and Tyson the next weekend, June 26th 2010. In Dallas. Ok awesome, but I'm not dropping that kind of money.

Where it gets cool, is when you notice that Victory Plaza at the American Airlines center is hosting an outdoor summer movie. They've apparently done this all summer and I missed Twilight being screened on June 6th. But what I WON'T miss is not only New Moon being shown, but ECLIPSE CAST appearances.
And it surely can't be a coincidence that two stars will already be in town for their Nordstroms appearances.

David tweet that Eclipse is finished!

David Slade tweeted late last night that his part of Eclipse is DONE, COMPLETE, FINISHED, OVER WITH, FINIT! Do you really understand what that means! My god in about 2 weeks, we ALL GET TO SEE THIS MOVIE!

16 days from the movie opening, Slade tweeted this picture of himself. I wonder how exhausted he truly is, because I remember wanting to cry for Weitz when he was talking about how that year of making New Moon was just utterly horrific.

I'd kill to know what he's thinking here.

pdates: I am separating the posts into the afternoon events/interviews/video's and then creating a section for the night panel with the fans. So if you are looking for the Press Conference, it is in section 1, whereas the Fan Panel is obviously here on top in Section 2.

I had heard that this entire night conference was a lesson in being second-hand embarrassed. I SO agree. These are uncomfortable and fans need to get a muzzle. Even if it's glittery and covered in Twilight stickers, they still need muzzles

SECTION 1- LA TWI-TOUR INTERVIEWS, PRESS CONFERENCES AND VIDEO'S

So obviously we aren't there, but we DO have affiliates who are updating, as well as third party sites who are giving us tons of information and pictures throughout this weekend. This afternoon, they held a press conference which was mainly made up of Twi-Bloggers, and the larger Panel that will be open to ticket holders will happen at 7 tonight.

12:13 p.m. Now Rob gets the Rob/Kristen question. "Do I understand the fantasy of it? No, not really. People like the stories. My basic conclusion is that they want everything to be about 'Twilight,' I guess..." He pauses for a while after promising the truth. Then? No answer. I'm shocked.

Whoo!! 30 full mins of Rob's interview! As Shannon says, SEXCELLENT!

Kristen's Interviews
She talks about having babies in BD, that kissing Jake is a mistake. She's know about BD being 2 films for a very long time and was not allowed to confirm it. She is VERY excited to see Bella become a vampire finally and considers her one of the coolest vampires of them all after she finally turns. That kinda made me tear up a bit, seeing Kristen discussing how she really does care about Bella and obviously HAS read the books

11:27 a.m. "I really can't wait to get into that. I've been on the outskirts of what it would be like to play one of them," Kristen says, regarding getting to tap into her vampire side for "Breaking Dawn," adding, "She's going to be the coolest vampire of any of them." She looks forward to charting the full character change in Bella from the first movie through to the end of "Breaking Dawn."

11:31 a.m. Kristen emphasizes that people who call Bella a weak, codependent girl aren't reading her correctly. She's learning. She's dealing with things. She's making mistakes and gaining from them and she's becoming more sure in what she wants.

 Kristen actually speaks fondly of meeting Renesmee (gets her name right) and what that experience will be like. Damn she made me tear up again. Kristen also does this twisty-back-poppy thing that I do CONSTANTLY and get made fun of for it all the time,  so I'm convinced now that I adore Kristen Stewart (like I didn't already). They also ask her WHO should design Bella's Wedding Dress, which is actually a question I wanted to hear Kristen answer, especially because I see her viewing marriage the same way KStew does (reluctant but will do it for the right guy)



She speaks SO HIGHLY here, of what Bella becomes when she does finally turn, and how much thought and emotion she has personally put into playing that role. She discusses the massive arc from a 17 year who cares little about the world, to the powerful matriarch, wonderful mother, super powerful strong untouchable vampire. She is awesome. Amazeballs.

Taylor's Press Conference  

 He says he has no idea where they will cut BD into two parts. Having to tell "Edward" that he is "afterall, hotter than you" felt very odd for him. And about Renesmee... he seems a little worried about that interaction for himself

10:42 a.m. "Whatever the book says, that's most likely what we're going to do," Taylor on when he takes his shirt off.

10:49 a.m. "I think that was definitely the right thing to do," Taylor says of breaking "Breaking Dawn" into two movies. "There's just so much to do with the Wolfpack and the Baby." If you could hear his tone as he says "the baby." He sure sounds... wary. As he should.

10:51 a.m. "Yeah. I really... I haven't started thinking about it too much..." Taylor says of the "unique romantic entanglement" he has in "Breaking Dawn." He adds, "That will be interesting, for sure."

Evil Iguana spoofs the Eclipse Trailer

I have to admit this one is pretty funny- they've gotten some better writers I think. I particularly chuckled at the part about Seattle and budget cuts and trickle down economics. That will only make sense if you watch. Admittedly Jasper even has better hair in spoofs than he does in the real movie. The fight scene is quite epic-- Jasper literally just bitch slaps everyone

Oh yeah. And a MASSIVE BAHHAAHHA for the vampire army getting split up

Summit Confirms Breaking Dawn to be 2 movies

Los Angeles, CA, June 10, 2010 – Summit Entertainment confirmed today that THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN will be released as two separate films with the first of the two slated to be released in theatres on November 18, 2011. I almost can't even discuss how happy I am about this. My fave book get's DOULBE the screen time of the other movies. Which means, frighteningly that it can be doubly screwed up. This means way way way more time in Twilight land, waiting on movies and soundtracks and merchandise to be released. And honestly, I"m ok with Summit and the other companies cashing in on fans by making this all last longer, because I WANT it to last longer! I don't want to look forward to the day when this all ends!

AWESOME Video Interview with David Slade about Eclipse

This really is a great interview with Slade, specifically discussing Eclipse and his view of filming it. IGN filmed this and I love that they got some new info on this topic, for a bunch of fans that know almost everything possible about this saga

David said he wanted Edward to be DANGEROUS finally. To be the very vampire that he knows he is and sees in himself, the animal that he knows he should keep from Bella and that could possibly always kill her in the end

He also says if you've read the book, you still don't know everything (exciting!!). I love that he mentions Villians and says it's plural (I"m guessing he means the Volturi in case some haven't read Bree)

He appears to be quite proud of Xavier Samuel in his depiction of Riley and his short journey in the movie to his own death.

I love that he really is so new to this genre, but takes it very seriously, as much as it deserves

New Eclipse Clip- Bella hangs out with wolves

Wellllll folks I"m slipping back on the Eclipse Purity ring and banning any more video's from here on out. I'll post but I"m not watching. If I remember correctly, it wasn't scripts, music or pictures that begin to sour New Moon- it was the constant clips of the movie itself that did it in for me.

So I'll post stuff if you choose to watch it, but I have no comments because I haven't seen it! So how do I know what's in it? Cause a billion other sites all say it's Bella hanging out with wolves. If it turns out to be a musical number where Taylor sings to Bella, don't blame me. I haven't seen it

Eclipse is "Different" says Rob. A Horror film though?

MTV says :

…”Twilight” enthusiasts who haven’t braced themselves for a different experience should consider themselves warned: Leading man Robert Pattinson revealed to MTV News that the threequel absolutely takes a more serious tone.
“I’ve seen a very early cut,” Pattinson said at the . “It’s good. It’s different. It’s really different, like, it’s kind of serious.”
Pattinson clarified that in the case of “Eclipse,” the words “different” and “serious” are good things, especially when it comes to the action sequences. “All the kinds of fight scenes that are in ‘New Moon,’ they’re, like, real fights now [in 'Eclipse'],” he said. “They’re not, like, fantasy things. It’s like a horror film!”
The horror label should come as no surprise considering that “30 Days of Night” director David Slade is responsible for “Eclipse.” And not to mention the fact that Peter Facinelli previously revealed that fans will see the “true vampire-ness” of his Carlisle Cullen and the rest of his fanged family, including the “dark, dangerous side” of Alice (Ashley Greene), as well as “a darker side” of Jasper (Jackson Rathbone). Another big tipoff to the film’s pitch can be found in the “Eclipse” footage we’ve already seen, like the action-packed teaser that premiered during the 2010 MTV Movie Awards on Sunday.
Having earned a PG-13 rating for “intense sequences of action and violence,” there’s no question that “Eclipse” will differ from previous “Twilight Saga” installments. The only question is, do you trust Pattinson’s declaration that “different” is a good thing?

David Slade writes a letter to Eclipse Fans

Dear fans of The Twilight Saga,

I want to congratulate you for reaching over 6 million fans on The Twilight Saga Facebook page.

It's hard to fathom that it was just over one year ago that I started constructing this third and epic adventure which takes place in the town of Forks.

I want to share a story about one of our days of shooting with you.

It was a Friday night and the rain was relentless. We were at La Push to shoot the tribe's histories, a great speech by Billy Black. We had Taylor and Kristen and the whole wolf pack around a campfire as the heavens let loose on us.

Gil Birmingham was in fine form as the rain hammered down on us all, we adjusted our lights so that the rain vanished into the black of night.

We constructed a tent over the scene to keep everyone dry as we worked, every 15 minutes or so we would have to tip it to stop the collecting rain from splitting the fabric.

For some reason still unknown, around 3am, the wolf pack stood exactly in the way of several gallons of rainwater as it was being cleared. Being the wolf pack, they just laughed it off as they stood there soaked to the bone.

We worked through the mud and the rain all night, until we had the scene perfected.

As we left, dawn was now cracking and in the dim light I passed a small army of fans who had braved the weather for the entire night, still standing there, holding drenched flowers and waiting to get a glimpse of our actors.

So, to those of you who stood behind our security, who waited in line at theatres overnight, to those of you who just love these stories, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is a love letter to you.

Each day I felt the weight of your favourite scenes, your favourite lines, your dreams and your imagination.

It has been an unforgettable journey, and now as I finalise the last prints to ready the film for your local theaters, I cannot wait for you to see it.

These both premiered today and I'm digging both of them

Yeah this movie is just going to be amazing. No other way to put it. Honestly, this trailer is way different than I ever imagined from the normal Eclipse spots. It's a little off, because obviously Riley isn't the one with the main vendetta, but it's an interesting angle to sell to the general public to get them to head to the theater! Some new footage in this one that's cool (Jen be on the lookout for a Jasper punch)

Reviews of the Eclipse Soundtrack

A few outlets had already given reviews of the Eclipse soundtrack before we all got to hear it live today-- their thoughts are that it's overall a very very good compilation of songs.

EW gave it this report

At this point, even the most entrenched haters of Twilight's vampire-sparkle voodoo concede the soundtracks' indie-rock bona fides — though they might wish the music came shrouded in a plain brown wrapper.

Like last October's New Moon collection, Eclipse operates as a sort of alt-party primer: original songs from the genre's current varsity squad, with a smattering of JV newbies. Pomp-rockers Muse, practically the movies' musical mascots by now, provide the requisite dose of Queen-meets-Rush grandiosity on ''Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever),'' while Jack White side project the Dead Weather revel in swampy blooze-ooze on ''Rolling in on a Burning Tire.'' Vampire Weekend, stripped of their habitual Afro-pop swaddling, work the harpsichord-tinged twee of ''Jonathan Low'' into a pleasingly woolly tangle, though Australian chanteuse Sia's ''My Love'' does more with much less — her fragile ballad is so ethereal and otherworldly, it should be sung in Elvish. U.K. indie-pop outfit Fanfarlo's rickety ''Atlas'' sounds like Talking Heads on a dirt-road detour; Beck and British songstress Bat for Lashes trade haunting echo-chamber 
vocals on the percussion-heavy duet ''Let's Get Lost''; and on the heady ''Heavy in Your Arms,'' Florence + the Machine make like Siouxsie Sioux leading a tribal marching band into battle. L.A. unknowns Eastern Conference Champions co-opt Radiohead's dense existential dread, Band of Horses conjure up another beardy folk ramble, and this summer's palest citizens get a pretty solid ready-made mixtape. And song choice IS important. But for Twifans, the question is not really if the songs themselves are "good", but rather if they fit the emotions of the story we adore. Are these songs TWILIGHT? Do they tell the story of Edward and Bella and Jacob and The Cullens and Quileute's and the entire town of Forks and La Push? I really am open to any song choice, as long as it embodies exactly what I felt when I read those books. I want those songs to evoke emotions in me, years after I hear them for the first time. I can legitimately say that the Twilight Soundtrack, to this day, still makes me cry. It still evokes incredibly strong emotions out of the blue.

So Is the Eclipse Soundtrack worthy to actual Twifans?

From first listening, My grade is an A. Or whatever grade is above A. There has to be something better than an A! I give it "Above an A" for musicality, for song choices, for beautiful compilations and choices, for some kick ass songs and some haunting melodies. But above all, the songs are already evoking emotions that I think will be doubled if not tripled when I can finally see them matched to their scenes. They may have hit it out of the park with this one. I'll give a few examples below.

Attempt to even listen the opening NOTES of this song and not start crying. I was already welling up. There is something deep about the notes of this one that tells you to pay attention, to be aware, that this song is not "just another ballad" and it's not to be taken lightly. I don't even remember the words and I knew it hit chords that were touched when I was reading Eclipse specifically. This song pretty much tells you in the first 5 seconds "Sit down, shut up and listen. And Pay Attention"



I just adore this song. I'd listen to this on repeat if it was never ever attached to this soundtrack. It's just flat out freaking awesome.




I noticed themes tonight when I was listening. As my husband (the avid WolfFan) were listening to the songs, there were three parts we kept pointing out as song placement- Rose's story, Jasper's Newborn Life and "The New Borns" kept coming up as we talked about each song. Really strong or emotional songs kept being stated as being a possibility for Rose or Jasper or Newborns, so it makes me wonder how big those scenes will eventually be
